The story we describe below seems to have been written by fate itself to highlight this simple idea, which might just appear to be good advice for a happy life.[/vc_column_text][ultimate_spacer height=”50″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][vc_column_text]In fact, Manuela’s story is one like many others that describe everyday life: of her hard work in her beloved little pastry shop, of a husband as a life companion to share adventures great and small with, and her distinctive personality as a day dreamer, which has always defined her.

Indeed, while growing up Manuela always felt a little different, especially from her schoolmates; she’s always been ferociously curious about everything her eyes have yet to see: a thirst for travel, adventures, and a “desire for far-off places”, as she herself describes it.

And one fateful day, Manuela was forced to dig deep into her well of fortitude, when fate did not smile on her.

Her “despite everything” moment came in 2010, when life played the cruellest of jokes; her husband was involved in an accident and lost his life. During those dark, painful days, she had only her own strength to rely on, and so, as always, she decided to follow her woman’s instinct, which led her to close her pastry shop and follow the dream she’d been harbouring ever since she was a child: the desire to travel.[/vc_column_text][ultimate_spacer height=”50″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”32249″ img_size=”large”][ultimate_spacer height=”20″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]But how? Where to start? And what should she say to those people who would tell her that she couldn’t travel the world alone because she was a woman and because couldn’t speak good English?
But as we know, when a woman puts her mind to something, she becomes unstoppable, and so Manuela decided to seize the moment and set off on her first real trip: trekking in Nepal. Coincidentally, fate also added to this adventure, when she had the opportunity to exchange her home with a girl from South Africa and move to Cape Town after Nepal.
However, initial euphoria gave way to home sickness, and this, combined with the lack of a home of her own, a job that ended badly and a lot of free time, led to her feeling unsettled and lonely: “only during my very first long journey did I miss my old friends, and from that moment I learned to detach myself, in a good way, from people. Everyone follows their own path, and you always meet new people on the way. But they don’t replace your old friends, far from it!” says Manuela.[/vc_column_text][ultimate_spacer height=”20″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][ultimate_spacer height=”20″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][vc_column_text]The cliché that travelling first and foremost means not having a job makes her falter, and this is coupled with the fact that nowadays, it takes time, effort and a good dose of courage to be free. Over time, journey after journey, Manuela has learned to accept the unexpected, to leave her comfort-zone, which she actively seeks to do by choosing new destinations based on random events, such as the cheapest ticket, the first vacant accommodation that comes up or the season. Over time, she has learnt the profound, sincere meaning of the words “traveller”, time, hospitality, and the meaning of giving your positive energy in return for accommodation.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Loneliness is not a problem for her and she forges on with a rigorous method called destiny; she accepts the unexpected and this helps her to overcome problems easily. She reveals to us the secret to travelling alone for a long time: “A backpack is an essential piece of kit. So lighter is better! Having a tired back and arms is the norm.” Today Manuela’s smile has returned: from Nepal to Cambodia via the Philippines, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, California, Mexico, Tokyo, she’s spread her smile all over the world because it’s the smile of a person who has fallen in love with life.[/vc_column_text][ultimate_spacer height=”50″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]But as we all know, life has many twists and turns, and unexpectedly Manuela’s smile has become the beaming smile of a mother. On 26th October 2017, her daughter Andrea Sveva was born, one of the great women of the future, and someone who would also become a great travelling companion right from the moment she was born. Their first real journey together was Brazil, when Andrea Sveva was just a hundred days old. Then followed Prague and the Canary Islands when she was 7 months; in Greece Sveva learned to walk, in Mexico she celebrated her first Christmas and, in 2019 between her first and second year of life, Thailand, Taiwan and Tokyo. The siren-call of travel and good organization enabled them to spend July at the North Pole to see the midnight sun. In September they went to the Greek island and climber’s paradise of Kalymnos, a place Andrea Sveva had already visited when she was in her mum’s tummy, and in December they travelled to Jordan.[/vc_column_text][ultimate_spacer height=”20″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”32239″ img_size=”large”][ultimate_spacer height=”20″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]They revealed a little secret to us about their travels around the world: A Marsupio backpack! “Being experienced travellers, we manage to pack all our clothes, swimwear, slippers, games, diapers, and creams into two Marsupio backpacks, which are small enough to be tucked under the seat on the plane,” says Manuela. In realtà una peculiarità che ha da sempre fatto sentire Manuela un po’ diversa, specialmente dai suoi coetanei ai tempi della scuola e poi crescendo, è stata una feroce curiosità verso tutto quello che ancora i suoi occhi non avevano potuto vedere: il viaggio, l’avventura, il “voler andare lontano”, come lei stessa afferma. E a questa grande forza d’animo Manuela ha fatto appello anche quando la vita non le ha sorriso. Il suo momento “anche se” arriva nel 2010 quando, malauguratamente, la vita le gioca lo scherzo più brutto di tutti: suo marito, a seguito di un incidente, viene a mancare. In quel momento buio e doloroso, facendo affidamento solo nelle sue forze, decide di seguire, come aveva sempre fatto, il suo istinto di donna che la conduce a chiudere l’attività da pasticcera e ad seguire il desiderio che aveva dentro di sè fin da giovane: viaggiare.[/vc_column_text][ultimate_spacer height=”50″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”32249″ img_size=”large”][ultimate_spacer height=”20″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Ma come fare? Da dove partire? Come rispondere alle persone che le dicevano che da sola non poteva girare il mondo perché donna e perché non conosceva abbastanza bene la lingua inglese?
Ma si sà, quando una donna si mette in testa qualcosa nessuno la può fermare, come si suol dire, e così Manuela decide di cogliere l’attimo e partire per il suo primo vero viaggio: trekking in Nepal. A questa avventura, per pura coincidenza, si aggiunse anche il destino che le presenta la possibilità di scambiare la sua casa con una ragazza del Sud Africa e trasferirsi, dopo il Nepal, a Città del Capo. Dopo un momento di grande euforia iniziale, però, la nostalgia unita alla mancanza di casa, ad un lavoro non andato a buon fine e al tanto tempo libero, creano un mix di sconforto e solitudine: “solamente nel primo lungo viaggio sentii la forte mancanza dei vecchi amici, da quella volta ho imparato a staccarmi, nel senso buono, dalle persone. Ognuno ha il suo percorso si incontra gente nuova che non rimpiazza i vecchi amici, anzi!”, afferma Manuela.[/vc_column_text][ultimate_spacer height=”20″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][ultimate_spacer height=”20″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][vc_column_text]Il cliché che viaggiare significhi in primis non avere un lavoro la fanno vacillare, d’altro canto l’essere liberi al giorno d’oggi richiede tempo, esercizio e una buona dose di coraggio. Col tempo, viaggio dopo viaggio, Manuela impara a lasciare spazio agli imprevisti, ad uscire dalla sua comfort-zone, e lo fa scegliendo mete mai viste in base ad eventi casuali come il prezzo meno caro di un biglietto o sulla base del primo alloggio libero o della stagione. Col tempo impara il significato profondo e sincero della parola traveller, del tempo, dell’essere ospitale, del donare le sue energie positive in cambio di un alloggio.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]La solitudine per lei non è un problema e procede con un rigoroso metodo chiamato destino, lascia libertà agli imprevisti per superarli facilmente e ci rivela il segreto per viaggiare a lungo in solitaria: “è necessario avere con te uno zaino. Quindi più leggero lo fai meglio è! Schiena e braccia stanche sono all’ordine del giorno.” Manuela ora sorride, dal Nepal alla Cambogia passando per le Filippine, la Tanzania, lo Zimbabwe, la California, il Messico, Tokyo, il suo sorriso arriva in ogni parte del mondo perché è un sorriso di una persona che si è innamorata della vita.[/vc_column_text][ultimate_spacer height=”50″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Ma la vita, si sa, come ci toglie a volte ci dà ed inaspettatamente il sorriso di Manuela diventa un sorriso di mamma. Il 26 Ottobre 2017 nasce sua figlia, Andrea Sveva, una futura grande donna e da allora anche una grande compagna di viaggio. Il primo vero viaggio insieme a cento giorni dalla nascita, in Brasile, poi Praga e Canarie a 7 mesi; in Grecia Sveva impara a camminare, in Messico trascorre il primo Natale e, nel 2019 tra il primo e secondo anno di vita, arrivano Tailandia, Taiwan e Tokyo. Il richiamo del viaggio e la forte organizzazione permettono un loro soggiorno, a luglio, al Polo Nord per ammirare il sole a mezzanotte e a Settembre in Grecia, a Kalyminos, paradiso dell’arrampicata, dove Andrea Sveva è di casa da quando è nel pancione, e a Dicembre in Giordania.[/vc_column_text][ultimate_spacer height=”20″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”32239″ img_size=”large”][ultimate_spacer height=”20″ height_on_tabs=”20″ height_on_mob=”20″][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]In questo giro per il mondo sono riuscite a svelarci un piccolo segreto, quale? Uno zaino Marsupio! “Da brave viaggiatrici che siamo, riusciamo a mettere tutti i nostri cambi abito, costumi da bagno, ciabatte, giochi, pannolini, creme e cremine dentro due zainetti Marsupio, che hanno proprio le misure adatte per stare sotto il sedile dell’aereo”, afferma Manuela.
